Digital Literacy and Coding –
21st Century Skills (Intermediate Phase)

In 2024 detailed assessments of the connectivity, devices and IT infrastructure at each schools were undertaken. This established a clear understanding of the resourcing required to get this infrastructure to a satisfactory state. It is envisaged that this will be undertaken through a partnership between the schools, the Department and the Mkhulise programme.

A training programme was introduced for senior leadership at each of the schools to help them improve their basic digital skills. This course is ongoing and will be completed in 2025.

In Term 3 2025, a Coding and Robotics programme is being launched together with the Department of Education for teachers and learners in the Intermediate Phase (Grades 4-7). This will result in the setting up of Coding Clubs for learners who will, in this way, be better prepared for the new world of work.

School Principal

We have a much better understanding of the importance of digital skills now that we have engaged with the Mkhulise programme – through our visits to the Beier factories we can see the digital skills that our learners will need when they start to look for work.
